How are any of these things good for our society? Are the writers of Time trying to make people feel better who have lost their homes?

At this time there is still a mortgage interest and property tax deduction. One wonders if the Time magazine people have a hidden agenda to remove this advantage to home ownership. More money for the government, less in the hands of the citizens who earn it. "It is a forced savings account because one day the home will be paid off and can be an inexpensive place to live or sold for a good amount of cash when the seller may really need it." Not really. It shouldn't be viewed as a savings account at all. On top of that, you know that very, very few people live in their homes until the mortgage is paid off.
